2025 was Melissa Jefferson-Wooden’s year. She tore through the circuit to claim triple gold in the 100m, 200m, and the relay at the World Athletics Championships, becoming only the second woman, after Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, to achieve this legendary feat. Jefferson-Wooden could have had a flawless 2024 season, too, if it weren’t for Gabby Thomas.

While speaking with Serena and Venus Williams, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden opened up about the fire that has been driving her this season. She reflected on her performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. While she captured Gold in the 100m relays, in the 200m, she had to settle for third as Gabby Thomas stormed to the win and Tamari Davis edged into second.“So I got out there in the 200, the gun went off, and I got out. I’m off the curve. I’m in first. And then the next thing you know, I get passed by Gabby. And then my body had just completely shut down,” said Jefferson.

Melissa Jefferson is looking at a generational run
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden once ran through the streets claiming she would be a champion one day, and at the World Athletics Championships, she proved it, capturing three gold medals, the crown jewel for any athlete. So, were the results satisfying? As per her, this is only the starting point of her reign, and more accomplishments are yet to come.
“The biggest lesson I got from this year is learning that if you lock in and dial in on things you say you want to achieve but also put the hard work in on top of that, the sky is the limit,” she said. “There are so many things out there that I’ve accomplished this year. But there are so many more things that I do want to accomplish.” With a meteoric rise comes a merciless work ethic, one she trusts will push her to even greater heights.
