Demetrious Johnson is open to fighting in special rules bouts in the future, just like he did against Rodtang Jitmuangnon at ONE X, the promotion’s 10-year-anniversary show. However, there are a few criteria ‘Mighty Mouse‘ has for it to become a reality again.

The 12-time MMA world champion’s tenure in ONE Championship is remarkable. From nearly losing in his initial bouts to winning the ONE Flyweight Grand Prix, from losing via knockout to submitting Muay Thai great ‘The Iron Man‘ and getting a rematch against Adriano Moraes, Demetrious Johnson has done it all.

Likewise, the veteran MMA fighter can add a lot of hybrid rules contests to his already illustrious career.

In an interview with MMAFighting, ‘DJ‘ answered what it would take for him to accept another challenge like his March 26th bout against Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

“It has to be special, it has to be special opponent; it has to be special event. You know… When I did that one, it was 10-year-anniversary for ONE Championship against a big star like Rodtang. So, it makes total sense, right? In my opinion, it made total sense.”

“Everybody knows who Rodtang is… So it was the perfect fight for me to take against Rodtang. So, if another superstar like that comes up, and it’s a right, you know, event, then I might be up to that point,” said the 35-year-old athlete.

The AMC Pankration standout is currently scheduled to face Adriano Moraes in the rematch at ONE 161. This flyweight title bout will close the show (ONE Championship‘s first event in the U.S. prime time) on August 26.

‘Mighty Mouse’ knows he has an enormous task in front of him when he will rematch the Brazilian champion on August 26. The flyweight king handed Johnson the first knockout loss of his pro-MMA career. Thus, it appears he is not leaving any stones unturned to prepare for the biggest task of his MMA journey.

Since Johnson bought a place in Arizona, where his former foe Henry Cejudo trains, ‘Mighty Mouse’ went to work with ‘Triple C’ at his Fight Ready MMA gym. Subsequently, Johnson had appreciative words for ‘The Messenger‘, who is teasing a return to MMA.
