Is Superlek the real deal, or is Haggerty just too strong to be dethroned?

Fresh off his victory at ONE Friday Fights 68 against Kongthoranee Sor Sommai, reigning ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 will now solely focus on his next bout at ONE Championship’s return to the United States. He’ll be competing at ONE 168 in Denver, Colorado, on September 6th at the Ball Arena.

Superlek Kiatmoo9 faces a unique challenge as he moves up to a heavier weight class to take on two-sport ONE Bantamweight World Champion Jonathan Haggerty. In this highly anticipated clash, Haggerty will attempt to defend his ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title against the formidable Superlek.

Later when asked about how he views the weight difference between his fight at ONE Friday Fights 68 in the flyweight division and his upcoming at ONE 168: Denver in the bantamweight division, Superlek replied, “I think it would be very different from what the fans have seen today. It’ll be a totally different game and I have the determination to just go forward with that game. It will be very fun and entertaining.”

Superlek on fighting in America

Since ONE Fight Night 10 in May 2023, this marks the second time ONE Championship is organizing an event in America. So far, six thrilling fights have been announced for the event, with at least six World Champions in action and three defending their belts.

The interview continued with the reporter inquiring about Superlek’s first time fighting in America. Superlek emphasized his desire to connect with the American audience, stating, “Well, I’m aiming for more fans to know me in the United States and I’m aiming to win against Haggerty on that day.”

With just over two months left until ONE 168: Denver, there is a major question mark over Superlek Kiatmoo9’s move up to bantamweight. While he has been dominant at flyweight, we will see if he can replicate this form in his upcoming fight against Jonathan Haggerty. Stay tuned for further updates.
