Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang may have to had to wait a little longer than expected to get his hands on “King Kong Warrior” Fan Rong, but he says his hunger to overcome the Chinese powerhouse has remained intact. The Kill Cliff FC athlete was slated to take on the WMMAA Champion at ONE Fight Night 6 in January, but Fan withdrew from the tie for undisclosed reasons.

However, Aung La N Sang made quick work of Fan’s replacement, Gilberto “Giba” Galvao, at the event, using his concussive punching power to finish the Brazilian in only 89 seconds.

Aung La N Sang wasn’t too perturbed about his bout getting rescheduled

He’s now riding back-to-back first-round finishes, and his confidence going into his middleweight meeting with Fan at ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III on Friday, May 5, is at an all-time high.

There has been speculation that he was frustrated with his upcoming foe’s decision to pull out at the eleventh hour in January, but the former two-division king refuted those claims in a recent interview with ONE Championship.

Aung La N Sang said, “I just take it as it is. I mean, I don’t need extra motivation. I have motivation in me already. There’s a reason why I fight. And it’s bigger than Fan Rong. It’s bigger than me. I don’t need extra motivation. I’m just going to go out there [and do my thing].”

“Sometimes, the outcomes are not good. But it is what it is. For me, it doesn’t matter. Fan Rong, we’re scheduled again. I am motivated to put on a good show against him. It’s nothing personal, for sure.”

Aung La N Sang had bigger visions than just a victory in his upcoming bout

While the 37-year-old superstar isn’t discounting Fan’s skills, he is ultimately focused on bigger things than his bout at ONE’s debut U.S. on-ground event. He sees his upcoming bout as a solid chance to put himself back into World Title contention.

New names may have arisen in the middleweight division over the last couple of years, but none of them have been able to impress as Aung La N Sang has since he lost his belt to reigning World Champion Reinier de Ridder in 2021.

As such, a win for “The Burmese Python” on May 5 would keep him on track for the trilogy bout he so desperately wants against the dominant Dutchman.

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
