Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida’s star continues to rise in ONE Championship’s heavyweight mixed martial arts division, but he’s not letting his impressive run distract him from what’s directly ahead. The multiple-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion will look to continue his MMA journey in perfect style when he takes on feared competitor “Reug Reug” Oumar Kane at ONE Fight Night 13: Allazov vs. Grigorian on August 4, and his run so far suggests he’ll do just that.

“Buchecha” has been supremely dominant since moving to the all-encompassing sport full-time in 2021, and he has won all four of his ONE outings via first-round stoppage. His latest win came at the expense of former World Title challenger Kirill Grishenko last August, which placed him firmly on the list of challengers for the division’s top prize.

“I don’t think about [the World Title], and I don’t care about it. I leave it in the hands of my coaches and my manager. I’m just an employee. I go there and do my job. When my manager and coaches think I’m ready, I’ll be ready,” Almeida said.

“At the same time, I gain time in the cage. I gain experience, which I think is the most important thing. I don’t want to speed anything up. I will fight for the belt when the time is right. But I don’t go into any fight thinking about the next one. My focus is totally on ‘Reug Reug.’”

Marcus Almeida only has his next fight on his mind
“Buchecha’s” choice to keep his mind trained on Kane is wise. The Senegalese monster is 5-1 in ONE, including three dominant finishes, and he is coming off back-to-back wins in the promotion. A win against Almeida would be the perfect step toward a bid at the World Title, so fans can expect him to come out with all guns blazing on August 4.
All the action from ONE Fight Night 13: Allazov vs. Grigorian will be broadcast live and for free on Prime Video for fans across North America with an active Amazon subscription.
