“The Monkey God” dropped the divisional crown in controversial fashion against Joshua Pacio at ONE 166 earlier this year after he launched the Filipino fan-favorite with an illegal slam that led to his disqualification.

Jarred Brooks admits the need to stop slamming his opponents

In an interview on Sportskeeda MMA’s podcast with Nic Atkin, Brooks recounted the loss and aligned it with his other two career defeats.

“It was kind of like your highest moment to your lowest moment. In my career, my losses are comedy, bro. It’s comedy. I tried to do the Canadian destroyer, I gotta stop me when it comes to slams, I guess,” he said.

“But God puts me in a lot of positions where I always have to work back. I always have that underdog mentality, so it actually works in my favor. I get to fight other people.”

While competing in the UFC in 2018, the American star famously knocked himself out as he attempted to slam his opponent, Jose Torres. With his disqualification against Pacio coming from a slam, Brooks may be on to something when thinking about dropping the move from his arsenal.

“The Monkey God” wishes the best for “The Passion”

While “The Monkey God” wishes his foe a quick recovery, he is looking forward to getting back into action against any other competitors who dare meet him in battle.

“I know Joshua is going to be out with the ACL injury. This just puts a stamp on me beating everybody in the division, including Joshua. I wish nothing but the best for Joshua; I’m sorry that happened at the end of the day. No athlete wants to see another athlete almost potentially die in the ring,” said Jarred Brooks.

“I have the utmost respect for him as a champion, as a fighter, and as a Christian. But we’re going to have to run that back sometime. He’s the champ, and he can’t be sitting on that belt for a certain amount of time. But I’m looking forward to going against other competitors, doesn’t matter if it’s strawweight or flyweight; we’ll see where it goes, man.”
