The rivals are set to square off live in U.S. primetime from the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, and if their first encounter was any indication, the rematch should deliver high-paced action from start to finish.

Lito Adiwang hopes for better results this time with a familiar rival

The pair first met in March 2022 at ONE X. While that battle was shaping up to be an unforgettable war, it ended prematurely when, in the second round, Adiwang suffered a devastating knee injury. He’s now back at full strength and ready to prove himself against “The Jaguar.”

According to “Thunder Kid,” he plans to employ a wide range of weapons in the rematch and – importantly – to press the pace from the opening bell. He detailed his strategy, “Looking back, my leg kicks were working in that fight, and it’s still something that I plan to use but now we’re looking to incorporate everything. I’m working on connecting everything – from leg kicks to punches to timing that takedown.”

“In this fight, I believe I need to push more. In our first fight, we were both feeling it out, waiting for one to make a mistake. I wasn’t that aggressive. This time, I need to be more active, more aggressive, but in a smart way.” With a combined 15 KO/TKO victories between them, both Filipino stars are known for their explosive striking.

Lito Adiwang doesn’t want to settle for a decision this time

But Adiwang believes the rematch will be decided on the canvas, and he looks forward to showcasing his ever-evolving ground game. “I believe that this fight will eventually reach the ground, regardless of how it gets there. I see this fight becoming a ground battle. Maybe I can control him there, then submit him. That’s how I see this fight happening.”

Ultimately, whether it comes on the ground or on the feet, the 30-year-old Soma Fight Club representative is sure he’ll secure the stoppage and leave Bangkok a winner. He added, “This is going to be a finish, whether it be a knockout or submission by yours truly, the ‘Thunder Kid.’”

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
