Alex “Little Rock” Silva hopes to wrap up his battle at ONE Fight Night 8: Superlek vs. Rodtang on Prime Video how he does best, with a vice-like submission. The former ONE Strawweight World Champion faces Keito Yamakita inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium this Friday, March 24, and as he has done in the past, he plans to put an end to the hype surrounding another rising star.

Now aged 40, Silva knows he will now have to cross paths with younger prospects quite often in the Circle if he wants to continue competing at the highest level. But instead of being daunted by that thought, he wants to use it to power him through his training camps with renewed motivation.

Alex Silva is unperturbed about Keito Yamakita’s superb record

‘Little Rock’ said, “He’s good, young, and a champion. He has all of my respect. I think this is a good matchup. He looks like a very well-rounded fighter. He’s a champion in Japan. I love this kind of challenge. This is what motivates me to keep fighting.”

Yamakita has put together a spotless 7-0 resume since turning professional in February 2020, and he has got there with submissions, knockouts, and a collection of lopsided decision wins. His four-year undefeated streak doesn’t phase Silva, however. In fact, he’s looking forward to facing a foe of such caliber.

‘Little Rock’s’ experience, BJJ skills, and drive to win have helped him triumph against rivals young and old. And he has stopped two unbeaten Japanese fighters already in his storied ONE tenure, having ended Hayato Suzuki’s 15-0 run with an 82-second armbar in 2017 and Yoshitaka Naito’s 12-0 resume after a five-round war.

Silva predicted how and when he would finish his Japanese opponent

If all goes to plan, the Evolve MMA representative wants Yamakita to be yet another star from the “Land Of The Rising Sun” who loses his spotless record at his hands. Silva added, “I think my experience is my advantage, and I always bring and believe in my jiu-jitsu. I will submit him in the second or third round.”

My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
