A pair of submission grappling standouts in ONE Championship could soon find themselves on a collision course. Strawweight competitor Tammi Musumeci recently won gold in the light-featherweight division of the IBJJF No-Gi World Championships. He beat former ONE World Title challenger Jessa Khan in the tournament’s final round.

Danielle Kelly, the recently crowned ONE Women’s Atomweight Submission Grappling World Champion, was watching the action unfold. Next, she quickly took to Instagram to call out Musumeci with an interesting proposal.

“I’d gladly take this match for the 125lb vacant grappling title match against Tammy. I want to be the first-ever two-division grappling champion for ONE Championship,” she wrote. The post was accompanied by a picture that Tammi’s brother Mikey Musumeci had put on his Instagram story, in which he has his arm draped on his gold medal-clad sister’s shoulder.

Tammi competes in the 125-pound division in ONE, where she is 2-0 after defeating BJJ black belts Bianca Basilio and Amanda Alequin. Her fifth no-gi World Title came in the 112-pound division against the same person who took Kelly to the limit in her latest outing.

Kelly faced Khan for the inaugural atomweight submission grappling strap this past October, and some fans have argued that the Cambodian-American star had a decent case for claiming she won.

Considering the world’s largest martial arts organization hasn’t yet introduced a belt for Tammi’s division, flyweight submission grappling king Mikey proposed an alternative for Kelly’s challenge when replying to her post.

“This division doesn’t exist yet. When it does, sure! But first, defend your jawn ‘title’ at 115 with my sis, who doesn’t have an IG, hahaha! Will be amazing watching you two grapple and growing women’s jiu-jitsu across the world,” he said.

The weight and hydration rules for IBJJF and ONE differ. However, it’s not too farfetched to think that Tammi could make the atomweight limit and give Kelly all she could handle. However, the Silver Fox BJJ representative’s proposal of an inaugural strap for the strawweight division could also be an interesting route. No matter which weight class they ultimately meet in, fans should be as excited as Mikey to see how they test each other’s skills.
