Ahead of his highly anticipated match, Tawanchai explained that while his kickboxing rival may not be used to fighting in small gloves, he is one of the top pound-for-pound fighters on the planet today and should be able to figure out a way around it early on.

“I have known of, respected, and followed [Superbon] throughout his kickboxing career. But I’ve never watched him compete in Muay Thai,” he told ONE in a recent interview.

“It’s no problem [that he hasn’t competed in Muay Thai recently]. He has a Muay Thai background, and he has good skills. I don’t think he’s at a huge disadvantage. He is one of the best strikers in the world. He is definitely not an ordinary fighter.

“His strength is his head kick – he can kick really fast. And he has no weaknesses. I can’t let my guard down for a second, or he will put me to sleep.”

Who will win the clash on Friday?

Through his five bouts in ONE, Superbon has competed exclusively in kickboxing, where he once reigned as king of the featherweight division. That was until Chingiz Allazov shocked the world by knocking him out in the second round of their headlining bout at ONE Fight Night 6 this past January.

The veteran striker has since bounced back from the loss, scoring a spectacular head kick knockout on Tayfun Ozcan at ONE Fight Night 11 in June. Now, he returns to his Muay Thai roots to challenge the streaking World Champion.

Tawanchai is on a six-fight winning run, so he knows what it takes to succeed in the world’s largest martial arts organization. He believes that the smaller gloves could play a factor against Superbon but won’t go as far as saying it will determine the outcome of their bout.

“The small gloves will definitely make a difference from the kickboxing fights he is used to because the impact force between small gloves and large gloves is very different,” he said.

“I’ve prepared a lot of things for him. Let’s find out in the ring. I’m confident I will beat him as well. This belt belongs to me. I won’t give it to anyone without a fight. I will do my best to keep it.”
