Alexis Nicolas wants Regian Eersel to know that he may be the most dangerous fighter to challenge him for his lightweight Muay Thai throne.

On Friday, April 5, Nicolas will step into battle in hopes of taking the coveted World Championship from “The Immortal” in the main event of ONE Fight Night 21 inside the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

“Barboza” showcased his incredible talent during his time in the competitive European kickboxing scene. He collected 22 straight wins before moving to the global stage of ONE this past January at ONE Fight Night 47.

The French striker carried over his success by claiming a unanimous decision victory over Russia’s Magomed Madomedov in his debut, and he now finds himself with the opportunity of a lifetime in his upcoming outing. Despite the huge step up in competition, Nicolas is unfazed by the pressure and imposing reputation of his opponent.

“I’m confident when I get in the ring because I’m a workhorse. I’m not afraid to lose. It’s all about my performance. I’m afraid of not performing. Even if I do perform and I lose, I’m OK with it,” he told ONE in an interview. Eersel has dominated the lightweight kickboxing and Muay Thai ranks of ONE Championship since he arrived in 2018, and he nabbed the inaugural belts in both sports during that time. His winning streak of 22 bouts goes back to 2016, making him one of the most dominant stars in all of combat sports.

Nicolas is not underestimating Eersel

While “The Immortal’s” accolades and record haven’t gone unnoticed by Nicolas, he says it won’t matter when they meet inside the ring on April 5. “I have a huge amount of respect for Regian Eersel. He’s one of the best fighters of this generation. I have a lot of respect for the athlete outside of the ring, but once we’re in the ring, we’ll let the best man win. It’s going to be a war between two lions,” he said.

Eersel has put down some of the planet’s best strikers in his time in the world’s largest martial arts organization – most of them with ease. However, Nicolas believes he poses a threat that the two-sport ONE World Champion hasn’t seen before.

“I think Eersel has fought against a lot of good fighters but nobody with my style. For me, that will be the difference. He’s fought fighters that punch harder than me, are faster than me, but not like me. I think that will be the difference. I know he has good knees, good punches, but I fight against fighters who fight like this. Not as good as him but fight like him,” he said.
