The Mikey Musumeci challenge won’t be a cakewalk for Jarred Brooks
“Yeah, I’m fighting ‘The Monkey God’. ‘The Pasta God’ vs. ‘The Monkey God,’ which god is better – we’re going to find out,” he told Mitch Chilson at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The heated matchup will be Musumeci’s third World Title defense, while it will serve as Brooks’ first test in both the submission grappling realm and the flyweight division.

He has dominated ONE’s strawweight MMA ranks since his debut in 2021, and Musumeci recognizes his American compatriot’s strengths. That said, he’s confident that he will dominate the action wherever it goes. “He’s a wrestler, he’s definitely very strong and keeps coming forward, which is the best thing for me,” he said.

“Anyone that comes forward and attacks me makes it easier for me to finish them. So I’m super excited for this match. I think in every aspect of this match, I feel like I can finish him anywhere. Legs, arms, back, choke. So I don’t really care where the match goes. I’m just going to be looking for the finish every second. I’m going to be running forward every second to finish him.”

Mikey Musumeci was confident about a win despite respecting Jarred Brooks’s skills
With his challenge of “Darth Rigatoni,” Brooks has a golden opportunity to become a two-sport and two-division World Champion. That may be an enticing reason to seek out Musumeci, but the grappling sensation makes it clear that he’ll have lessons ready for the Michigan native when he steps into his sport.

“I respect Jarred a lot. He’s an amazing competitor. He’s the champ, so I respect him so much. He’s going to be super tough. He’s used to MMA jiu-jitsu, which is all punching. It’s a whole different style, so he’s definitely going to be game for this,” he said. “I just see myself being ahead in every exchange and getting the finish.”
