

The co-main event of ONE 157 saw the first of two Muay Thai World Championship matches going down in the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The strawweight Muay Thai king Prajanchai PK. Saenchai put his title on the line against top-ranked Joseph Lasiri.

Lasiri showed a wonderful performance against the Thai champion, PK. Saenchai, and got him out of the ONE Circle before the start of the fourth round.

After the co-main event bout, the 27-year-old Thai fighter moved to a 338-52-3 Muay Thai and kickboxing record. Whereas, the new champion now holds the 42-12 record across Muay Thai and kickboxing but, importantly, he has the ONE strawweight Muay Thai gold with him.

Round by round analysis of Prajanchai PK.Saenchai vs. Joseph Lasiri
Round 1 started with both fighters taking the measured approach before the champion tried to push the pace, but Lasiri used good footwork and head movement to deflect the champion’s attack. That said, Lasiri used some long-range shots to good effect, and at the end of the round, he put the champion’s back to the Circle Wall.

Round 2 began with the champion coming aggressively, but Lasiri appeared comfortable on his heels. Lasiri too used good forward pressure, but was more cautious in the first minute of the round.

The challenger, Lasiri, split the guard of the champion with good jabs after landing a timely uppercut to the face of the Thai fighter. And when the champion tried to pay back Lasiri, he had his side-by-side movement to stay away from danger. The challenger dominated the second round.

A dominating round 3 and a new champion at ONE 157
The co-main of ONE 157, round 3, saw the same story, with the champion attacking in the first minute of the round. However, the 30-year-old challenger looked composed and followed the game plan, i.e., moving away from the hard shots and using the jab to create openings. The champion had blood all over his face, and some of it was going into his eyes as well.

The Kick And Punch Palestra standout, Lasiri was calm even after putting the champion against the Circle Wall constantly. Consequently, he picked apart the champion without taking any damage in the third and won the round.

However, what unfolded later was shocking, to say the least. The champion couldn’t make it to the next round. Thus, the ONE Muay Thai strawweight division has a new champion – Joseph Lasiri.
