Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Ok Rae Yoon will clash with American veteran Lowen Tynanes at ONE Championship’s debut on-ground U.S. event ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III on Prime Video on Friday, May 5. The Singapore-based promotion confirmed the addition to the epic card earlier today.

Top-ranked lightweight contender Ok will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways at his Hawaiian foe’s expense inside the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado, after failing to defend the divisional crown in his heated rematch with Christian Lee last August.

Ok Rae Yoon had showcased his mettle multiple times in his ONE Championship career

The South Korean star has been largely impressive throughout his ONE tenure, however, and another dominant display in May could see him set a course for ONE gold once again. Ok debuted in ONE with a unanimous decision win over former featherweight king Marat “Cobra” Gafurov at ONE on TNT III in April 2021, and he went on to defeat Eddie “The Underground King” Alvarez in a shocking upset when he made his sophomore bow at ONE on TNT IV.

Those back-to-back wins over two MMA World Champions earned the Team Mad slugger his first shot at a divisional crown, and he challenged Christian “The Warrior” Lee for the lightweight belt at ONE: REVOLUTION in September 2021. The evening, Ok scored the biggest upset of his tenure when he ousted Lee from his perch with his ruthless striking and stern defense.

After five grueling rounds, he earned the unanimous decision win to become the new king of the division. Unfortunately, when he ran it back with Lee just under a year later, the Singaporean-American put in a performance for the ages to reclaim his gold, finishing the South Korean just 60 seconds into round two.

Ok Rae Yoon’s May 5 matchup won’t be a cakewalk

That defeat has motivated Ok to achieve greater heights, though. And he hopes to leave the Circle with his hand raised on May 5, to push him clear of the chasing pack in the lightweight rankings. But Tynanes is an athlete with the skill set to crush Ok’s plans.

The American will have the crowd on his side when he returns to the Circle and attempts to gain his 12th career win. Though his career has been blighted with injuries, the Hawaii Elite MMA representative remains one of the most dangerous fighters in the division.

Equipped with potent stand-up game and solid movement on the canvas, Tynanes will be looking to make it two wins in a row after he defeated Dae Sung Park by split decision late last year.

Both men own strong all-around arsenals, so it’ll be interesting to see who manages to engrave their dominance when this lightweight clash gets underway at ONE Fight Night 10 inside the 1stBank Center, Broomfield, Colorado, on Friday, May 5.

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
