Eko Roni Saputra and Danny “The King” Kingad’s pivotal flyweight tussle has all the ingredients to go down as an instant classic. And the most successful athlete in the history of the promotion’s flyweight roster, Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes, expects the two to show just why at ONE Fight Night 7: Lineker vs. Andrade II on Prime Video this Friday, February 24.

“It’s going to be another great fight in this division. This division is very strong, with very tough athletes,” the eight-time ONE Flyweight World Champion said. “Danny Kingad has already been a contender and has been improving his grappling game a lot. I believe it will be a very busy fight, with Danny Kingad trying to keep the fight standing and Eko Roni Saputra trying to put Kingad down since his background is wrestling.”

Both Eko Roni Saputra and Danny Kingad would want a victory desperately

A victory for either man would be of utmost importance for a variety of reasons. Hence, Moraes knows both men will give everything to leave the Circle as the victor. Kingad will be looking to bounce back from his shocking defeat versus Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov to start another run to the top of the 135-pound division.

“The King” has shared the Circle with some of the most talented stars on the roster, and Saputra is another talented fighter who could give him a run for his money. However, if he does get his hand raised, he could make a case for himself to get another shot at the ONE Flyweight World Title.

On the opposite corner, Saputra has been knocking down opponents like a woodcutter chopping down trees, raking up seven first-round finishes to stretch his winning run to 7-0. While the divisional gold remains his main target, the Indonesian star wants to break into the flyweight rankings for the first time. He could do just that with a victory over his first ranked opponent, Kingad.

Adriano Moraes predicted Danny Kingad would get the better of Eko Roni Saputra

Moraes, however, doesn’t believe that the Evolve MMA athlete has what it takes to continue his healthy form against one of the more experienced competitors in the division. Having shared the global stage with Kingad in November 2017, Moraes knows the quality the Team Lakay representative will bring to the ring inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

And he foresees “The King” leaving Bangkok, Thailand, with an important victory via a highlight-reel finish or on the judges’ scorecards. “Danny Kingad is a young fighter who has been evolving a lot. He’s been doing good fights and has already beaten very tough opponents,” Moraes said.

“As for Saputra, I don’t know much about him. I just know that his background is wrestling and that he likes to submit his opponents. But I believe Danny Kingad will win this fight on points or by technical knockout.”

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
