Danielle Kelly is open to the biggest clash in women’s grappling history against ONE Strawweight queen, mom-champ, Angela Lee.

The 26-year-old made her emphatic ONE Circle debut when she got a performance bonus in a definitive grappling display against former ONE World Championship challenger, Mei Yamaguchi.

Danielle Kelly revealed her future aspirations in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports’ Arunaditya Aima. The Silver Fox BJJ fighter when asked whether a grappling contest against ONE’s 10-year-anniversary show headliner winner would intrigue her and informed that Angela Lee has shown interest in the same said, “I’m happy that she’s open to the idea.”

Kelly suggested she has tremendous respect for Angela Lee. She added, “She just had a kid; she is a mom; a mom champ… I have a lot of respect for her. She’s putting a name for all the hard-working moms out there.”

Angela Lee made a successful ONE Championship return after a two-year hiatus as she defeated an in-form Stamp Fairtex.

Returning from such a long break and headlining a monumental card indicates the star power of Angela Lee. Thus, Kelly wants to capitalize on this massive opportunity.

The New Jersey fighter said, “It will be an honor to share the cage with her. And It would also be an opportunity to spread women’s jiujitsu in a whole global aspect.”

Danielle Kelly expects aggressive Angela Lee

At the ONE X extravaganza, Kelly couldn’t find the submission she was looking for to make a statement in the ONE Championship women’s division. The reason is that the veteran Mei Yamaguchi was not taking any unnecessary risk to present Kelly with an opportunity to submit her.

However, when it comes to Angela Lee, she’s been known for her aggressive style. Chiefly in the grappling department. Even against the matchup with Stamp Fairtex, when things went north after a brutal body shot from the Thai fighter, Lee went to her bread and butter and made sure she dictates where the fight took place.

Thus, considering Lee’s BJJ black belt and fight style. Kelly said, “She would be more engaging than Mei. She’s beaten Mei, so I think it will be a really fun match. It will be very entertaining and that’s what the fans want to see.”
