ONE Championship produced another action-packed event inside the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, which saw history being made. ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart saw two new World Champions crowned and a host of finishes and tight contests. In the main event, former world titleholder Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks looked like a man on a mission as he choked out Gustavo “El Gladiador” Balart to win the ONE Interim Strawweight MMA World Title.

While the finish was definitive, Balart gave a good account of himself in the fight, surprising Brooks with a takedown that put the American on his back. As a result, Brooks had to switch up his game plan of throwing hands against “El Gladiador” and pursue a battle on the ground. He found his way to Balart’s back and relentlessly pursued a finish. With just under a minute to go, “The Monkey God” got under his opponent’s neck to score the finish. Following his win, the Mash Fight Team member was also awarded his jiu-jitsu black belt by his coach.

Meanwhile, the co-main event became a historic bout when Mayssa Bastos beat Danielle Kelly for the ONE Atomweight Submission Grappling World Title. In the process, Bastos became the first Brazilian fighter to win submission grappling gold in ONE. Kelly looked aggressive at the start of the bout and her efforts paid off as she scored a catch off a heel hook. Her rival, though, showed why she is a multiple-time BJJ World Champion, attacking from her guard and scoring a quick ankle lock catch with under five minutes to go.

In the final minute of the match, Bastos appeared to have found her way to another catch that put her in the lead. In the end, all three judges favored Bastos to award her with 26 pounds of gold. ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong made the win even sweeter for the Brazilian grappler as he awarded her with a US$50,000 performance bonus.

At the top of the card, Thai-Malaysian striker Aliff Sor Dechapan and Algerian hard-hitter Elias Mahmoudi also won bonuses for their spectacular knockout victories over Zakaria El Jamari and Taiki Naito, respectively.
