And though she’s feeling confident, she also knows that her upcoming foe will put up a fight when they meet inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Tammi Musumeci intended to be watchful in her debut ONE Championship bout

Musumeci shared, “I think she’s one of the best out there. That’s pretty much to say. I mean, she’s aggressive, she’s technical, she’s one of the best out there, at that weight, or even, I wouldn’t say at the weight, I’d say of all the smaller girls, any of those weights, she’s one of the top girls.”

To get herself prepared for what may come her way on fight night, the 28-year-old BJJ black belt has rewatched Basilio’s highlights, familiarizing herself with the Brazilian’s work on her back, craft from top mount, and ability to get submissions from various positions.

While she has competed at the highest level of submission grappling, Musumeci feels she has to remain cautious against a well-rounded wizard like Basilio. As a result, she describes it as a privilege to test herself against the latter.

Tammi Musumeci also showcased respect for her opponent, Bianca Basilio

She added, “I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m excited. I like watching her compete. I don’t know how fun it’s going to be to compete with her, but we’ll see. I’ve spoken to her a few times. I think it’s an honor to fight her. It’s cool. I have no expectations for this.”

“I’ve seen her win and lose, and she always seems the same no matter what. She’s not one of these people who if they lose, have an attitude. She seems just thankful to be there, and I feel the same way. I do respect her for that as well.”

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
