Is Demetrious Johnson on a break from MMA?

Since headlining the promotion’s first-ever US event, ONE Fight Night 10, in 2023, Johnson has stepped away from the cage for a bit. He’s been busy with other pursuits, including his popular podcast and gaming streams, as he is an avid gamer. In light of this, he recently announced on Instagram the upcoming appearance of ‘The Undertaker’ on his podcast, writing, “Mightycast on the road shout out to @undertaker for giving us the time!! can’t wait for you guys to listen to this one!!  “

Additionally, he has tested his skills in BJJ tournaments and expressed interest in fitting a boxing match against boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, demonstrating his well-rounded approach to combat sports.

Demetrious Johnson’s side quests

Demetrious Johnson hinted at retirement after defeating Adriano Moraes to reclaim the ONE Flyweight MMA World Title last year. Fans were left wondering about his future, but Johnson left the door open for a return in his post-fight interview.

Recently, he competed and won an IBJJF tournament as a brown belt, sparking rumors of a potential grappling match debut, which he discussed on his podcast in May alongside American MMA fighter Renato Moicano. Johnson stated, “I’m 37, going to be 38 this year. There comes a point in time when an athlete needs to stop [and] chill. I’m getting ready for my next jiu-jitsu competition. So when my body is ready for a hard training camp, I’d love to box.”

He further expressed interest in boxing Manny Pacquiao, saying, “And it would have to be the right opponent. If it was Manny Pacquiao, f**k it, I’m doing it. I don’t want to box another MMA guy. I wouldn’t mind, but I want to box a legend of the sport.”

However, the upcoming plans of “Mighty Mouse” are unclear. Now, the question for the fans: In which discipline do you want to see Johnson? MMA, submission grappling, or a boxing match against Manny Pacquiao? Let us know in the comments.
