Superlek Kiatmoo9 praises the ferocity of Kongthoranee

Kongthoranee is riding a sizzling seven-fight win streak and is fresh off winning a six-figure contract with ONE. His threat level isn’t lost on Superlek, who praised his upcoming foe in a recent interview.“He has knockout power but is also very technical. He’s slow, though. I do think he’s great. He’s confident and on top of his game,” he told ONE.

Of course, it’s difficult to count out Superlek, regardless of who he’s facing. After all, he’s the top-ranked flyweight Muay Thai contender and is on a nine-fight run of victories across Muay Thai and kickboxing. His last two fights are probably the most impressive of the 28-year-old’s ONE tenure so far.

First, he snapped ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon’s dominant 14-fight undefeated run in striking competition at ONE Friday Fights 34 last September. He then gave Japanese star “The Natural Born Killer” Takeru Segawa a rude welcome to the promotion at ONE 165 this past January.

It’s no surprise that Superlek is supremely confident heading to his bout with Kongthoranee, and he broke down his best advantages and how he plans to finish it this weekend. “I feel like I’m faster than him. For sure, I will try to end the fight either as soon as possible, or with no major injury,” he said.

The World Champs Fight Plans

It would be wise for the flyweight kickboxing king to leave Bangkok unscathed this weekend, as he’ll immediately have to turn his attention to his challenge of Jonathan “The General” Haggerty’s ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title at ONE 168: Denver in September.

Preparation for both bouts will not be the same for Superlek, as the stakes will be significantly higher in the second. That said, he isn’t treating his meeting with Kongthoranee as any less of a battle, and he promises fans he’ll be at his best at ONE Friday Fights 68.

“Kongthoranee and Haggerty are two different people with different styles. I don’t think the game plan will be the same for these two,” Superlek said. He further added, “However, I have always put 100 percent of my effort into every fight. Fans can expect a great performance from me, and I’m sure for Kongthoranee, too. It’s going to be a great fight.”
