Tawanchai P.K. Saenchai will fight Niclas Larsen in the main event at ONE Championship 158. The bout will take place in the ONE featherweight division at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on June 3rd.

The P.K. Saenchai Muay Thai gym standout had a definitive performance in his last outing in the bantamweight division. The 23-year-old had knocked out Saemapetch Fairtex in the initial round of their ONE Championship: Heavy Hitters bout. Despite such success, the Thai fighter is moving up a weight division.

The Muay Thai elite spoke to ONE and revealed the reason for his weight change and what he’s looking for in his new division.

I had hard time losing weight to stay in bantamweight. I think I’ll be more natural in featherweight,” P.K.Saenchai informed ONE.

“I had to control my weight. I had to eat less in order not to gain weight. So, my energy drops, and I can’t perform weight training to improve natural muscle mass effectively,” offered the Thai fighter.

Moreover, the Muay Thai practitioner suggested a move up to featherweight could bring new light to his career, “... I think I’ll be more agile and my weapons will be even heavier.”

P.K. Saenchai believes he’s prepared to compete in the division touted as one of the strongest divisions in the promotion. However, he would need to work on his strength to not let there be any loopholes.

Despite the new division at ONE 158, the goal remains the same

All the fighters competing in The Home of Martial Arts have only one goal; to win the ONE World Championship. Likewise, the 23-year-old is ultimately looking to test his skills against Muay Thai featherweight champion Superbon Singha Mawynn and win the gold.

The Thai striker also revealed the featherweight Muay Thai world champion to be his idol. And he believes the champion’s training and game plan are ‘synchronized systematically,’ and admitted he’s yet to be at that level.
