The ONE Championship supremo, Chatri Sityodtong, brought in a massive development in the Asian combat sports picture with the announcement of the Friday Fights series and the ONE Openweight Muay Thai Grand Prix. ONE Friday Fights already has 3 successful editions to date and will have its fourth edition this Friday. The ONE boss is a thorough martial arts practitioner himself and trains in Muay Thai and BJJ regularly.

Sityodtong also believes in the teachings of combat sports. Every combat sport in this world gives at least one common lesson. They teach practitioners to never use them to portray their own power. Recently, Sityodtong took to Instagram and narrated a noteworthy incident. He described one of his altercations where he was challenged by an adversary for a fight. But the ONE boss showcased his true knowledge of martial arts and pulled out of the situation.

Chatri Sityodtong could’ve taught his adversary a lesson but showed restraint

The $350M worthy ONE Championship supremo revealed the entire incident in the caption of his Instagram post. He narrated, “A tourist meathead challenged me to a fight at the hotel gym in Hua Hin, Thailand where I was staying for work.”

Sityodtong further described how the altercation started when his adversary, a pretty jacked-up guy, accused him of using “his” squat machine. The ONE boss first apologized to him out of his humble nature and informed him that the machine was free to use when he started using it.

But the well-built guy displayed his arrogance and stated Sityodtong “to step outside with him” if he had any problem regarding this. The ONE boss continued, “It did cross my mind for a split second to step outside to teach this pompous a*s a lesson. However, I saw that he was with his girlfriend. So I decided to de-escalate the situation”.

He also described his mature final action, stating, “I politely apologized to him again, wished him well, and walked away.”

Sityodtong wasn’t a bada*s but had accurate knowledge of martial arts and their teachings

The ONE Championship head honcho himself admitted, “I can’t say that I am a bada*s. But I can say that I am a lifelong expert martial artist; who has been in my fair share of scraps“. It was understandable that Sityodtong could’ve got his adversary flatlined with his skills. But the true values of martial arts which he possessed didn’t allow him to do so.

Sityodtong revealed that he still trains in Muay Thai and BJJ six days a week. He also stated, “This dude was a breath away from getting KTFO or choked unconscious in front of his girl.” Sityodtong further iterated, “Muscles don’t win fights. Skills, training, and experience do”.

The ONE boss also described how martial arts had given him enough capability to “handle the business in most self-defense situations”. But he had also gained the humility to de-escalate situations. He opinionated that martial arts training should be included in every child’s educational curriculum right from the roots.

He also visualized the change these steps could bring. The ‘lifelong martial artist’ mentioned, “There would be far fewer ignorant people in the world and definitely far less bullying and/or fewer physical altercations.”
