A prodigious athlete with ruthless finishing instincts and elite skills in all areas of mixed martial arts, “The Bull” recently spoke about his start in combat sports.

Like countless other fighters, he says he started first as a fan: “I started getting obsessed with MMA. I was watching ONE Championship, I thought to myself, I wanted to try this because after all, I like the idea of punching people. I wasn’t getting into fights or anything. I just loved watching and seeing how people throw their punches in the ring.”

Bumina-ang’s from aspiring student to a competitor

Hailing from the Philippines, Bumina-ang noticed that the Baguio-based Team Lakay was, at that time, dominating the MMA scene in ONE Championship.

Inspired by former ONE World Champions such as Eduard “Landslide” Folayang, Kevin “The Silencer” Belignon, and Honorio “The Rock” Banario, the young Bumina-ang soon joined the fabled Team Lakay.

He hasn’t looked back since, and will soon look to add to his team’s world-renowned reputation: “Around that time, Team Lakay was already booming. They had four World Champions in its stable and that encouraged me to join. I enrolled only as a student, then I enjoyed it. After two months, I told them that I would like to join the Team Lakay [fight team]. Coach Mark observed me during training and then allowed me to compete.”
