Muay Thai icon Liam “Hitman” Harrison isn’t too pleased with reigning ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Jonathan “The General” Haggerty.

The two British knockout artists have recently been going at it on social media, and both are scheduled to compete on September 6 in U.S. primetime at ONE 168: Denver, live from Ball Arena.

Feud Brewing in Muay Thai: Liam Harrison vs. Jonathan Haggerty

Harrison is set to return from a nearly two-year injury layoff to take on Thai fan-favorite Seksan Or Kwanmuang, while Haggerty will defend his gold against flyweight kickboxing kingpin “The Kicking Machine” Superlek Kiatmoo9.

In a recent interview, “The General” said he would happily challenge Harrison to his face. In response, “Hitman” posted the quote on Instagram and explained that he saw the titleholder that day and not a word was uttered.

Never one to sit back and take an insult, Haggerty fired back, saying that Harrison avoided eye contact when the two were face-to-face. A former multiple-time Muay Thai World Champion and one of the sport’s most beloved figures, Harrison says that Haggerty is barking up the wrong tree.

As he explains, the World Champion should be more concerned about Superlek and #1-ranked contender Nico Carrillo, rather than picking a fight with a 38-year-old veteran: “He shouldn’t be calling out guys like me who are older. Like I said, he’s going to come across as the Jake Paul of Muay Thai if he keeps doing stupid sh*t like that. When he sat down on that chair yesterday, he should have said ‘Look, I’m 25-26. I’m in my prime.”

Liam Harrison’s thoughts on facing younger fighters

For his part, “Hitman” remains focused on his return fight against Seksan. “I’ve got Superlek next. After Superlek, give me Nico, he’s in his prime, I’d beat him as well.’ That’s how it should be, it shouldn’t be like ‘Oh, I want to fight Liam Harrison.’ I wouldn’t dream of doing that when I was his age.”

But, with that said, he’s happy to entertain a clash against his outspoken countryman – and thinks he still has what it takes to defeat the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Champion:

“In that last fight, based on what I saw against Lobo, I think I still could beat him. Then again, it’s dangerous for me to go against these younger guys in their prime because they’ve got everything to gain by beating Liam Harrison.”
