Akbar Abdullaev’s Booming Uppercut Stops Oh Ho Taek

At ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24, Akbar “Bakal” Abdullaev wrapped up a dominant promotional debut with a devastating 44-second TKO against Oh Ho “Spider” Taek. The undefeated star wasted no time after the opening bell went, connecting with jabs and body shots while closing the distance. Oh tried to put up a defense, but as he threw combinations of his own, he inadvertently dropped his guard, allowing Abdullaev to capitalize.

He slipped through those punches and connected with a massive uppercut that he followed up with a barrage of hammerfists to secure his eighth first-round victory and improve his overall record to 9-0.

Fabricio Andrade Starches John Lineker

Fabricio “Wonder Boy” Andrade wasn’t blowing smoke when he dubbed himself the “uncrowned king” of the bantamweight division last year. It may have taken the dangerous Brazilian some time, but at ONE Fight Night 7 on February 23, he claimed the coveted throne with a massive TKO win in his rematch with former titleholder John Lineker.

Andrade threw everything he had at “Hands of Stone” for four hard-fought rounds, using his boxing combinations, Muay Thai weapons, and canvas skills to frustrate his countryman and inflict some serious damage.

He stung his foe with a quick-fire uppercut, sending the Brazilian down. “Giba” promptly returned to his feet, but the former two-division king was relentless. He dragged his foe to the Circle fence and unleashed a bucketload of elbows – one of which sent Galvao to the deck once again.

The coveted scrap between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson in 2002 was when I realized the passion for combat sports within my family. My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
