Regian “The Immortal” Eersel has reached the pinnacle of both the lightweight Muay Thai and kickboxing ranks in ONE Championship while amassing a staggering 21-fight winning streak that dates back to 2016, but his hunger for victory still hasn’t been satisfied. The Surinamese-Dutch striker is set to defend his Muay Thai crown against dangerous debutant Dmitry Menshikov in the main event of ONE Fight Night 11 on Prime Video on Friday, June 9th, and he’s more motivated than ever to put on a show.

Eersel’s reasons for fighting have taken shifted significantly in the last few years, and he outlined why in a recent interview with ONE. “When you become a dad, when you make major decisions in life, you don’t only think about yourself, you also think about your kids. Is this decision good for my daughters and their future?” he said.

Regian Eersel stated his daughters changed his thought process and had him living for them

“You’re going to think differently. That’s the only thing that has changed. It’s positive for me because you’re not alone in this world now. I have my two little ones, and you live also for them.”

The lightweight Muay Thai king claimed his second ONE World Title in a tightly contested split-decision victory over Sinsamut Klinmee in October 2022. Not happy with that result, however, he met the Thai sensation again in March and left no one in doubt on that occasion by scoring a devastating fourth-round knockout to cement his reign.

Despite his dominance, “The Immortal” will need all the fire he can muster in his upcoming battle. Menshikov owns a professional Muay Thai and kickboxing record of 27-1 and hasn’t tasted defeat since 2017. Most of his wins have come via TKO or knockout, and he will be eager to make his mark on the global stage by taking Eersel out in his promotional bow.

“The best thing is the little things, like, for example, when I wake up they say, ‘Good morning, Daddy. How did you sleep?’ The little things when they’re showing love to you, that makes the connection very special. It’s from your own blood,” he said. “It’s just the feeling that you get. I cannot describe it. It’s a different love to anything else.”
