A few weeks back, Williams announced her withdrawal from the next month’s Madrid Open. So far in the 2021 season, Williams has only played at the Yarra Valley Classic and the Australian Open, where she lost in the semifinals.

Since then, Williams hasn’t played a single match and pulled out from the 2021 Miami Open last month because of oral surgery. Hopefully, Williams will compete in a few clay-court tournaments before the start of Roland Garros, which begins on May 31.

Notably, Williams has been eyeing an elusive 24th Grand Slam trophy since the 2017 Australian Open. Despite reaching four major championship finals over the last four years, Williams has finished as the runner-up on each occasion.
