After no updates for a long time, Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil’s Professional Tennis Players’ Association(PTPA) has now taken huge steps with the appointing of its director and other board members along with the involvement of the co-founders.

Vasek Pospisil updated that PTPA has appointed Adam Larry as the executive director, Carrie Gerlach Cecil as the brand and communications head, and moreover, added Bill Ackman, Michael Hirshfeld, Rebecca Macdonald, Katarina Pijetlovic, and Anton Rabie to its Advisory Board.

PTPA is banking on creating a transparent environment for the players. With the establishment of the advisory board and director, the association will soon be representing a lot of players.

“With the establishment of our advisory board, our branding and communications team, and the appointment of Adam Larry as executive director, we have taken one step closer toward our goal of facilitating a fair and sustainable competitive environment for tennis players today, and for generations to come,” said Pospisil.

When did Vasek Pospisil and Novak Djokovic start PTPA?

Last year, before the US Open 2020, Djokovic and Pospisil announced their breakaway association, the PTPA, for the tennis players. Both of them were part of the ATP Players Council, with Djokovic being the president. However, they alleged that players don’t much influence the major decisions taken by ATP and the tournaments, and hence, they needed a better front to put forth their issues.

“I am beyond grateful to our advisory board, our PTPA team, and the players who have come together to advocate for the greater good in our incredible sport. We are working toward growth to help all players, not just the top 100, to make sustainable livelihoods and have their rights protected on and off the court. From top to bottom, we must use our collective voices to help players today, and tomorrow,” said Djokovic.

“First and foremost, the PTPA is the players’ movement. The PTPA wants to work with all of the tennis governing bodies to inspire collective reform to better the sport,” said Larry.

With the appointment of senior positions, PTPA is taking shape and could soon rival the governing bodies of tennis. However, there are still plenty of questions regarding the association, most prominently, the inclusion of WTA players.
