Lucarelli, who was Parma’s captain last season at Serie A,  shows his dedication for his club, and the spirit of the game by stating that he is willing to play for the club even though it has fallen prey to bankruptcy.

The previously Serie A club had to be sent to Serie D as bankruptcy had crippled the club. They now have to play against amateur teams.  As the club had become liquidated, all players had automatically had their contracts void and were free agents.

The captain said:  ” I’ve expressed my willingness to stay for Serie D. This year, unfortunately, we didn’t have many high points, but beating Juventus was one of those,” he told Mediaset.

“Parma must restart, we’re being rebuilt and I’ve expressed my willingness to stay for Serie D. I’m waiting to see what will happen, but I’ve given my approval.”

The player has played all across Italy, playing for teams like Fiorentina, Sienna and Genoa, along with other lower league teams too. He finally found his home at Parma where he has been playing for the past 222 games, for the past 7 years.

Along with discussing his loyalty for the club, he also discussed his fellow teammate Mauri’s rumour linked with Milan.  He believes Mauri is capable and has a great future because of his age.

“Milan have pulled off a great signing, because of Jose’s age, as well as the great personality he has, he’s ahead of a lot of players his age. He’s ready for a starting shirt”, he said.

He, in a previous interview, had blamed the Italian authorities for not helping the club when it had been at it’s worst. He was also quoted saying “Nobody is getting paid at Parma. The players can afford to wait a few months, but there are families living on €1,000 per month who haven’t received a cent. It’s dramatic for these people who need to feed themselves on these wages.”

“We felt abandoned, above all by the Federation and institutions, as nobody was interested in Parma until a few days ago. They only turned up when they realised we might not play on Sunday.”

Talk about the spirit of the game, and you’d understand it’s synonymous with this player. We commend you, for football lives on due to such dedication.
