Petra Kvitova Reacts After Being Selected As the Flag Bearer for Czech Republic at Tokyo Olympics 2020 Opening Ceremony

Over the years, Czech tennis player Petra Kvitova has done wonders in the game. She is a two-time Grand Slam champion, winning the Wimbledon Championships twice, in 2011 and 2014 respectively. So far in her career, she has won 28 singles titles.

Recently, it was revealed Petra Kvitova would carry the Czech flag during the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics 2020. After hearing about this, the former Grand Slam champion was left speechless. It is one of the biggest honors for an athlete to carry the flag of their nation.

Petra went on social media and stated, “Honestly am still speechless after being told about this. I will carry that flag with so much pride tomorrow.”

Kvitova won the bronze medal during the previous Olympic Games. She lost to eventual gold medalist Monica Puig during the event but beat Madison Keys in the bronze medal match.

Reflecting on her performances this season, the Czech star has had a below-average season. In the Grand Slam events, she lost in the second round of the Australian Open as well as the French Open. She got knocked out in the opening round of the most recent Wimbledon Championships.

The Tokyo Olympics 2020 is beginning today and many prominent names will represent their nations. In men’s, we have World No. 1 Novak Djokovic who is the favorite to win the gold medal. Besides, two-time gold medalist Andy Murray is part of the event.
