Shields trains at Jackson Wink MMA Academy which has produced champions like Georges St-Pierre, Jon Jones, and Holly Holm amongst others. However, in the lead-up to her next fight, Sheilds was asked about Jon Jones. He was recently suspended from his long-time gym and having a personal relationship with ‘Bones’, she was asked about the whole situation.
Claressa Shields said about the situation, “I don’t even know what happened. That’s how out of the loop I am. I feel like you know, innocent till proven guilty of whatever it is. I just wish him and his family the best of luck.”

Claressa Shields’ next challenge
Having signed with the Professional Fighters League in 2020, Shields made her debut in June 2021. She won her first via TKO and is ready to enter the cage for the second time on October 27.
Since she has a boxing background, Shields is still properly learning the craft of mixed martial arts. She has been training with Holly Holm, who also was a professional boxer before switching to MMA full time.

While discussing what it’s been like working with Holly, she said, “It’s a cheat code for me. To be able to work with Holly Holm and Arlene (Blencowe). We had the same mindset, but to see how we all had to come from boxing and coming over to MMA, we’re not really much of a background on the ground. We actually help each other.”
