The 29-year-old welterweight took the league by storm back in February, when he knocked out Michael Lilly in just the first round of their PFL Challenger Series main event to earn a contract on the league’s main roster.

Last month, the man known as The Jordanian Lion’, continued his impressive run under the US-based promotion by defeating tough UFC veteran Gleison Tibau to earn three points and move closer to a spot in the 2022 PFL Playoffs this coming August. One more impressive win could secure Al-Silawi that shot and put him in a prime position to become the league’s first titleholder to come out of the Middle East.

To do that, however, he will need to be the best welterweight in the league. It won’t be easy considering that the PFL’s welterweight division is one of the league’s most talent-rich, with the likes of two-time champion Ray Cooper III, former world champion Rory MacDonald, and many other dangerous 170-pounders.

Indeed, there’s a lot riding on Al-Silawi’s maiden season with the promotion. If he can go all the way and hoist the league’s welterweight championship at the end of the season, it not only changes his career trajectory, but it also opens up a world of opportunities for Middle Eastern fighters like him who are looking to make it big on the global stage like the PFL.

PFL: Its Rapid Growth

In just four years, the PFL has rocketed to the top of the MMA world, alongside the UFC and ONE Championship. They’ve done that by being one of the fastest-growing and one of the most innovative sports leagues in the world.

Add to that a roster of world-class fighters and hence, you have the perfect recipe for a world-class MMA promotion.

It also helps that the league has managed to bring in numerous big-name sponsors and investors, which bodes well for the promotion as a whole, as well as the fighters competing under the banner. Recently, the league was valued at $500 million, following a recent round of funding that saw baseball icon Alex Rodriguez come in as a member of the board.

This level of growth and success in just a short amount of time is what has helped the PFL establish itself as a truly global platform and a prime destination for aspiring MMA talents who are looking to make a name for themselves on a big stage. Al-Silawi hopes to be a trailblazer for these aspiring fighters, especially ones from the Middle Eastern region.

Prior to his 2022 PFL Regular Season debut, Al-Silawi made it clear in an interview with ‘MMA Fighting‘ that one of his goals is to ‘kick the door down for other Arab and Middle Eastern-based fighters’, and if he can put together a
stellar world championship run in the PFL, he can pretty much demolish that door, so to speak.
