Anthony Pettis facing Stevie Ray at PFL 5 was an exciting bout for MMA fans. Pettis, who was with the UFC for a long time, switched over to the PFL in 2021. Unfortunately, he lost his first two fights in the promotion before acquiring a victory against Myles Price.

However, he also lost against Stevie Ray at PFL 5 through a submission. 

Pettis did great in the first round and opened the fight with a kick. He even defended a take-down attempt just minutes into the round. The fighter successfully put Ray against the fence.

However, a left hand from Ray made Anthony Pettis lose his balance. But, it was in the second round that Pettis suffered the most.

The second round seemed to go in Pettis’ favor in the beginning. However, when Pettis attempted to trip Ray, the fighter ended up on Pettis’ back. Pettis landed a few punches from this position, but Ray managed to get ‘Showtime’ in a modified body lock or body triangle as he tried to scramble.

Soon after, Pettis was forced to tap out in the second round at 3 minutes and 57 seconds. This becomes his third loss via submission.

The fighter thus has one win and one loss so far this year. Similarly, for Ray, who was coming off a loss against Alex Martinez, his win against Pettis means he has one loss and one win this year so far.

Pettis versus Ray was the co-main event. Post the conclusion of the fight, Pettis held his side and seemed to be in pain.

Pettis started his professional career back in 2007 and was on an eight-fight winning streak before getting stopped by Bart Palaszewski.

He fought for the UFC from 2011 to 2020 and faced some of the best fighters like Tony Ferguson, Rafael Dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, Charles Oliveira, and Dustin Poirier.

Thus, the 35-year-old fighter’s fans would like to see him in similarly exciting fights.
