Phil Mickelson Matches Phenomenal Jack Nicklaus Record on the Champions Tour

Phil Mickelson is one of the greatest golfers on the PGA Tour. He is competing at the PGA Tour Champions and recently won the Charles Schwab Cup. Lefty started his career this season on the senior tour with a win and has concluded it with another victory. Meanwhile, the German golfer Bernhard Langer won the overall championship for the sixth time.

The 51-year-old Mickelson shot -19 and won the event by a stroke. Moreover, with this victory, Phil has equaled a record of the legendary Jack Nicklaus.

Phil Mickelson equals Jack Nicklaus’ record

Phil Mickelson recently won the final event on the PGA Tour Champions at the Phoenix Country Club. Even though he won the Charles Schwab Cup, he wasn’t the season champion, as Bernhard Langer won it for the sixth time. This was Phil Mickelson’s fourth victory on the senior tour in just six starts.

He has equaled the record for the fastest ever to four wins. Previously, the record was held by the legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, who also did the same in six starts. So now Phil Mickelson joins the legendary golfer in this incredible stat.  

Phil made his debut on the senior tour in August 2020 at Charles Schwab Series at Ozarks National. He won the event on his debut itself and started his dominance on the Senior Tour. Furthermore, he won Dominion Energy Charity Classic, Constellation Furyk and Friends, and recently the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.

Jack Nicklaus had a similar start to his innings on the senior tour. He won two events in his debut season in 1990 and won three more in 1991 to complete five wins in two seasons. Meanwhile, Jack finished his Champions Tour career with ten wins and finished his golfing career in 2005.

So, Phil Mickelson will be hopeful of a similar career on the senior tour, and it will be interesting to see if he can keep his consistency going ahead in the next season as well.
