Wesley Bryan was the first to tee off on Sunday at the 2017 BMW Championship. However, he was the only player teeing off, as Danny Lee, who was paired with him, had withdrawn from the event. And he set an unofficial record with the fastest round on the PGA Tour. It is unofficial because PGA Tour doesn’t keep track of this stat.

Bryan was +6 after 54-holes and was 25 shots behind the leader Marc Leishman. And he had to make a near impossibly low number to get into the Tour Championship. Wesley Bryan started the week in 37th position in points, so he would’ve needed to climb from 69th to somewhere around the top 15 to give himself a chance for the Tour Championship.

The average time taken to complete 18 holes is usually four to four and a half hours. But Bryan played his last round in 88 minutes, which is outrageous. And the best part was that he shot 2-under 69, which was his best score for the 2017 BMW Championship. Wesley played the front nine in just over 40 minutes, and he was running around the course.

However, he still finished 69th in the field this week and missed the Tour Championship. In this final round, Bryan scored three birdies, 14 pars, and just one bogey. And he proved golf is not a slow game. Interestingly, Bryan holed out with his wedges when he had tap-in putts. He removed the flagstick by himself, as his caddie would go to the next hole whenever Bryan reached the greens to save time.

Previously, Kevin Na had finished his round at the 2016 Tour Championship in less than two hours. And while doing so, he shot 70 and remained even par for the day. However, Wesley Bryan went a step ahead and finished his round within one and a half hours.

Moreover, the group behind him hadn’t even gotten to the 9th hole when Bryan finished his round. Bryan’s wife said the marshal at Conway Farms took her from hole to hole in a cart as she couldn’t keep up with her husband’s pace.
