3M Open 2021 Cut Line: How Many Players Will Qualify for the Weekend?

The 3M Open is currently underway at TPC Twin Cities in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the 2020-2021 PGA Tour season is almost coming to an end. The 3M Open has a few top-ranked players in the field, and we are about to reach the weekend at the venue. But how many players will qualify, and what will be the cut line at the end of 36-holes?

3M Open 2021 got off to a splendid start on Thursday, and the fans have witnessed some brilliant golf from Rickie Fowler, Troy Merritt, Jonathan Vegas, and a few others. All these three players lead the tournament with a score of -7 after round one.

Cutline probabilities at the 3M Open 2021

A total of 156 golfers are part of the field this week at the 3M Open. But unfortunately, all of them cannot make it to the weekend, as the organizers will impose a 36-hole cut to filter out the players. 

The top 65 players, including ties, will qualify for the final two rounds at 3M Open 2021 and the cutline will be confirmed at the end of the second round. But after round one, the experts have already drawn a projected cut line.

According to data golf, the current cutline is -2. The current cut probability is based on the Round 1 performance of the players, but it can change pretty quickly.

The TPC Twin Cities is usually a straightforward course so, the cutline can go up to -3. So, according to data golf, there’s a 47.2% chance of cut line remaining at -2. However, there’s a near-equal 42.6% chance of the cutline going up to -3.  

There are currently 67 players who meet the expectations of the current cut, but it depends on how players go about their second round at the TPC Twin Cities. 

Prominent players at risk of not making it to the weekend

Currently, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia, Tony Finau, and Matthew Wolff are at risk of exiting the event, especially Watson and Finau. Both these players remained over par for the day after round one, and they would need a good final round to make it to the weekend.
