Xander Schauffele won gold for the United States at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and fulfilled his father’s ultimate dream. He triumphed over Rory Sabbatini of Slovakia with a single stroke to win his first Olympic medal. Soon, 7 players tied for third in that final that led to an epic playoff for the bronze.
After his winning putt, he could only mutter a few words like, “Just in shock.” Although he has four PGA Tour titles to his name, this win probably meant the most for the 27-year-old. His father, Stefan Schauffele, was a German Olympic hopeful in the decathlon. However, his career took a fall after an accident that left him injured and blind in one eye.
