Collin Morikawa Has an Approach Game Similar to That of Peak Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods, being one of the greatest golfers of all time, has revolutionized this sport with his skills and talent, making himself a global icon just a few years after his debut. Moreover, Tiger was well-known for his impeccable approach shots with his iron. And there was absolutely no one else close to him. However, a young kid from California, Collin Morikawa, is following in Tiger’s footsteps these days.

Collin Morikawa is one of the most prominent young golfers on the PGA Tour. The 24-year-old has already won two major championships in his career. Furthermore, he is also said to have an approach game that is as good as Tigers’.

Collin Morikawa’s approach game is as solid as Tiger Woods’ approach game

Collin Morikawa has been dominating the PGA Tour since 2019. Moreover, he has also created and equaled multiple records in his short career so far. Recently, Collin carded a 62 finish in the final round of the CJ Cup in Vegas and remained just a stroke behind the leader. He was hitting absolute darts with his iron to justify his incredible Strokes Gained Approach stat.

We all know there is no one currently who can match the level of golf that Tiger Woods played during his peak. However, Morikawa has managed to at least get closer, if not exactly like him, in one department of his game. And it is none other than the approach game.

2021-22 is the 19th season where Strokes Gained Approach has been measured. And in almost two decades of this stat, Morikawa has an unfathomable average along with Tiger Woods. Morikawa has an approach average of +1.03 per round and the only one above him is Tiger Woods, with an approach average of +1.26 per round. 

Moreover, there are around 500 players with 100 or more shot links measured rounds. But there is no other player above 0.80 other than Collin Morikawa and Tiger Woods

This shows the dominance of Collin Morikawa’s approach game, and if he continues similarly, he can even surpass the 15-time major championship winner in this department.
