John Daly recently appeared on the Full Send Podcast, there, they asked him about the best 3 or 4 iron shot of his career. Daly replied that he used to carry 1-iron. This shocked everyone as 1-iron is considered to be the toughest club to hit in golf. Furthermore, he revealed the best 1-iron shot he has hit in his career.

“So I would have to say the best 1-iron I ever hit was Baltusrol at the 17th hole where nobody got there that week. Nobody had ever hit the 17th green at Baltusrol in two. And I hit a 1-iron on it, and the only thing I ever thought about was, please don’t three-putt this, it will ruin the whole moment. So I two-putted it made a birdie.”

This incident which Daly described, took place at the 1993 U.S. Open Championship. The 17th hole was the longest on the course, stretching up to 630 yards. However, John Daly teed off with 1-iron and covered over 320 yards. Furthermore, he flushed his 1-iron again and reached the green in just two strokes, which was a huge thing back in the days.

Hence, this was the best 1-iron shot in his entire career, and he still remembers it vividly.
