Golf is one of the few sports where spectators are in the playing area. They need to be vigilant as the golf ball might cause a serious injury. And that’s what happened recently at the 2022 Genesis Invitational in Riviera Country Club. The tee shot of Jon Rahm injured a fan as he laid down in pain.

Tiger Woods’ Genesis Invitational is one of the most prominent events on the PGA Tour. Moreover, they also play it on one of the most intimidating courses with firm and fast greens. Hence, players sometimes play an errant shot in frustration, which can be a dangerous thing for spectators. So let us have a look at this incident from the recent second round of the 2022 Genesis Invitational.

Jon Rahm hits a spectator at the 2022 Genesis Invitational 

Rahm had a strenuous start to his second round as he was two over for the day thru five holes. And as he stood on the par-3 sixth hole with an iron in his hand, fans were hoping to see a comeback birdie. There were plenty of fans by the greens to watch Rahm.

However, the world no.1 golfer hot an errant tee shot that went where the spectators were standing and injured a man. Even though it wasn’t clear where exactly the ball hit, the man lay down and showcased some pain.

And Barstool Sports posted the same on Twitter with the caption, “Prayers up for the man hit by a golf ball at the Genesis Open. We wish him a full recovery and hope to see him at events again soon”.

The severity of the injury isn’t known. So hopefully, the man is fine and will be back on the course to watch more games.

Jon Rahm had an atrocious day as he remained +2 for the day and even par for the event. Hence, going into the weekend, Rahm’s chances of finishing in the top 5 are low. Additionally, Joaquin Neiman leads the event with a score of -16, while Cameron Young is just two strokes behind at -14.
