Justin Thomas Congratulates Rory McIlroy on First Tour Win in 19 Months

Rory McIlroy has got back to winning ways on the PGA Tour. The 32-year-old has finally won a title for the first time since November 2019 and it came at the right time. Tons of wishes poured in for McIlroy following his latest triumph, including one from his tour rival and World No. 2, Justin Thomas.

Justin Thomas has a developed a special bond with several golfers on the PGA Tour. Thomas is incredibly close to Tiger Woods as they technically live in the same neighborhood in Jupiter, Florida. JT shares a similar relationship with Rory McIlroy too.

Rory McIlroy was not enjoying his game on the tour a few months ago. He agonizingly missed the cut at the 2021 Players Championship and the Masters as well. He drew a lot of criticism with sub-par performances, but there was always hope that he’d bounce back.

Every player undergoes a form slump in his career, and Justin Thomas was surprised to see a player like McIlroy suffering from poor luck. However, Thomas had mentioned that McIlroy will soon bounce back and his words came true at Quail Hollow Club on Sunday.

As fate would have it, Justin Thomas’ prediction came true sooner than expected. McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship 2021, and JT couldn’t help but post a tweet congratulating the 32-year-old. 

Thomas thanked McIlroy for making him “look good” and hailed him for nailing the tough Quail Hollow Test. Justin Thomas competed at the event too but finished T26 with a score of even-par over the week.

McIlroy posted an emotional tweet after his victory

The victory at Quail Hollow on Sunday is certainly one of the McIlroy’s best ever. While it might not be one of his best displays ever, the way he handled adversity is truly admirable. Rory McIlroy faced tremendous pressure heading into the tournament and he fulfilled the expectations.

Rory McIlroy held on to win the Wells Fargo Championship by one stroke and later credited the fans for their effort. McIlroy holds the 18-hole and 72-hole records at Quail Hollow Club, and he was genuinely ecstatic with his third victory at the venue.

Rory McIlroy also sent out a message with his latest triumph. He is not to be taken lightly. He took bold moves at Quail Hollow this week, and the victory will aid as the perfect confidence booster ahead of the PGA Championship later in May.
