The 2021 PGA Championship is right around the corner and the golf community is massively excited. The second major of the year begins May 20, and the tournament will be played at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island this time. There are just a few days to go, and golf legend Nick Faldo mentioned his top two picks for 2021.
A lot of players are expected to perform well at the 2021 PGA Championship. Of course, there’s the defending champion Collin Morikawa who has a lot of hopes riding on him this year. Six-time major winner Nick Faldo was asked to render his opinion on this matter, and he mentioned two players to keep an eye on at the Ocean Course.
“Obviously it was great what Rory [McIlroy] did last week. That was a huge inspiration,” Faldo told reporters over a Zoom video conference call.

“If it becomes a long pounding test then obviously the ball strikers have an advantage,” Faldo mentioned. “But if it becomes hard work, with the wind and firm conditions, when even good shots miss greens, then it’s going to become a real scrambling test and the scrambling there is, well, it’s off the charts.”
Nick Faldo has high expectations on Jordan Spieth at the 2021 PGA Championship
Of course, Rory McIlroy had to be in the mix due to his recent run of form. McIlroy has proved that he’s got what it takes to win major championships in the past. But so has Jordan Spieth. Nick Faldo made McIlroy as his first pick, then named Spieth as another.
“There are some incredibly demanding holes and … you have to be innovative. You have to have some kind of repertoire of shots, so that’s why I look at the great chippers. Jordan Spieth is obviously one of those right now,” Faldo said.

“Both are seriously motivated. Rory would love to get back to winning majors and Jordan has the chance at the (career) grand slam,” he added.

Just as Nick Faldo said, this is the scenario for these two golfers heading into the 2021 PGA Championship. Both players are yet to complete the career grand slam, but Spieth has a better chance this year since the PGA Championship is the only trophy missing in his cabinet. For McIlroy, it is the Masters.
Moreover, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy found their game right in time for the 2021 PGA Championship. Spieth achieved his fourth consecutive Top 10 finish of the season at the AT&T Byron Nelson. As for McIlroy, he lifted his third Wells Fargo Championship title recently.
