The PGA Tour is currently taking center stage at Ridgeland, South Carolina. The one-time Palmetto Championship has attracted some of the best players in the world, and Round 2 is underway in full swing at the Congaree Golf Club. The 36-hole cut will be imposed after the second round, and how many players have a chance of making the cut and entering the weekend?

There are currently 156-players taking part in the Palmetto Championship at Congaree. However, not all of them will be granted to play the final two rounds as the tournament will impose a 36-hole cut.

The Congaree Golf Club is making its PGA Tour debut, but the players did not have a hard time adapting to it during Round 1. In fact, we saw many low-scoring rounds that indicates the potential of a thrilling finish to the event.

Of course, there would be a minor difference between players who are playing in the morning and the rest who are starting in the afternoon wave. Despite the changing conditions, all players will be evaluated based on their overall scores after 36-holes.

The Palmetto Championship’s cut line is drawn at Top 65 players (and ties). After the end of Round 1, there were 74 players (T54), who were eligible to make the cut at even-par or better.

As per the PGA Tour, there is a maximum probability that the cut-line will stand at even-par or better, after 36-holes. There is a 39.9% chance of it being even-par, a 26.3% chance of it raising to 1-under, and a 22.3% chance of it dropping to 1-over.

We predict that the cut line will stay put at even par after the completion of 36-holes. The opening two rounds will filter out the pack and present a limited field to compete in the weekend.

Notable names in danger of missing the cut

From what we saw, the Congaree Golf Club is offering the players multiple options due to the elongated fairways. However, not all of them found success in Round 1 on Thursday.

If the cut line remains at (E), there is a real possibility that some top names will crash out after two rounds. Right now, there are a few players like Harold Varner III, Kevin Kisner, and, Brandt Snedeker, who shot +1 in the opening round. These players will be eliminated if they don’t improve their score in Round 2.

The biggest upset would be if four-time major champion Brooks Koepka fails to make the cut at Palmetto Championship. Koepka returned to the tour for the first time since his T2 finish at the 2021 PGA Championship and he shot 3-over par, which placed him T111 on the leaderboard.
