If one is still unaware of what Cantlay revealed, it is the fact that Fred Couples will serve as vice-captain on the U.S. Ryder Cup team this year. However, Team USA captain Steve Stricker has not officially named Couples as one of the assistant captains yet.

Hence, Cantlay is the first one to break this information to the world. While there is no official word about Couples being selected as an assistant captain, we already know that Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson, and Davis Love III are the ones who’ve publicly been announced to take charge as vice-captains for Team USA at Ryder Cup 2020.

Patrick Cantlay takes up the sixth automatic qualification spot for Team USA

The Ryder Cup 2020 is nearing. The event was supposed to be held last year, but the pandemic forced a postponement of the prestigious tournament. The Ryder Cup is scheduled to begin September 24, and both Team USA and Europe look properly stacked.

As for Team USA, there are six automatic qualification spots allotted based on Ryder Cup standings. After winning the BMW Championship, Patrick Cantlay filled the sixth and final automatic berth.

Now, we’d have to wait for the conclusion of the Tour Championship, only after which Steve Stricker will name his six “captain’s picks.” Things are bound to get interesting when he makes his six picks.

The Ryder Cup 2020 will take place at Whistling Straits from September 24-26.
