Phil Mickelson Commits to a PGA Tour Event for the First Time in 21 Years

Phil Mickelson is one of the most prominent and loved golfers on the PGA tour. He has won 45 PGA Tours and six major championships in his career so far. He also became the oldest player to win a major championship, as he won the 2021 PGA Championship at the age of 50. 

Phil has recently made a huge announcement regarding his start to the 2022 PGA Tour season. He has committed to play the Sentry Tournament of Champions for the first time since 2001. Hence, everyone in the golfing is excited to see the left-hander compete in this limited-field event.

Phil Mickelson commits to play the Sentry Tournament of Champions

The organizers and everyone are excited to see Mickelson compete in the Sentry Tournament of Champions. He competed in the event for the last time in 2001. Moreover, the Sentry Tournament of Champions is a limited-field event. The field is restricted to golfers who have won an event on the PGA Tour in the previous season.

This event is usually the season opener, and we get to see top golfers competing in this event. And the six-time major championship became eligible for this event as he won the 2021 PGA Championship. However, it wasn’t clear whether or not he will commit to it, as he hasn’t played this event since 2001.

But Phil Mickelson has decided to compete in the Sentry Tournament of Champions and surprised everyone. “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Phil Mickelson back to Kapalua, as his return adds additional star power to an incredibly deep and talented field,” said the executive director of the event Alex Urban. 

The Sentry Tournament of Champions is all set to begin on January 6, 2022.

The Kapalua Plantation Course in Hawaii will host this champion event. Furthermore, the tournament also has received commitments from other major winners of 2021, Hideki Matsuyama, Jon Rahm, and Collin Morikawa. Hence, the tournament of champions is going to be an exciting event as fans will have a great time watching the best players compete.
