The PGA Tour’s controversial PIP Fund results were officially declared yesterday. And interestingly, it was not Phil Mickelson but Tiger Woods who was at the top in the PIP standings. Hence, Phil Mickelson’s claim of winning the inaugural PIP was not true. However, he got second place in the standings. 

Notably, the PGA Tour had earlier said they will not be publishing the final PIP standings. However, they seem to have changed their mind and hence have revealed the top 10 players in the standing. Meanwhile, the entire bonus was around $40 million. But how much will each golfer receive from the total of $40 million? Let’s find out.

The payout for the top 10 golfers from the PIP standings

There were plenty of controversies and rumors when Phil Mickelson made a tweet about winning the PIP Fund. But, there was no official confirmation about the same. However, yesterday things suddenly changed as the Tour published the standings and declared that Tiger Woods had topped the PIP standings.

And after declaring the results, they even published the standings of each golfer. So here is the complete payout for all the ten golfers. 

  1. Tiger Woods – $8 million
  2. Phil Mickelson – $6 million
  3. Rory McIlroy – 3.5 million
  4. Jordan Spieth – $3.5 million
  5. Bryson DeChambeau – $3.5 million
  6. Justin Thomas – $3.5 million
  7. Dustin Johnson – $3 million
  8. Brooks Koepka – $3 million
  9. Jon Rahm – $3 million
  10. Bubba Watson – $3 million

Tiger got a maximum of $8 million from the total purse of $40 million. It was probably only a tweet where he was seen hitting an iron shot that got him to this position. Meanwhile, other prominent social media users like Max Homa, Joel Dahmen, couldn’t make it to the top 10 this year.

We all know Phil is very much active on Twitter and interacts with his fans on this social media platform. Furthermore, his 2021 PGA Championship win might have also played a role in helping him reach the second spot.

This year the PIP Fund is increased from $40 million to $50 million. Hence, the players will have a chance of grabbing a huge amount than this in the second year of the PIP Fund.
