Rory McIlroy Gets Honest About Why He’s Playing Golf on the PGA Tour

Rory McIlroy is one of the most prominent golfers on the PGA Tour. He has 20 PGA Tour wins and four major championships in his career so far. Rory was going through a difficult patch since the resumption of the PGA Tour after the pandemic. His game was in shambles and was struggling with his golf swing as well. 

However, he has made a good comeback since the Ryder Cup, as he won the CJ Cup and had a decent outing in Dubai. Hence, Rory is slowly getting back into his original form and is trying his best to win events. Recently, he opened up about his main motive behind playing on the tour. So let us have a look at it.

Rory McIlroy opens up about his current motive behind competing on the PGA Tour

Rory McIlroy recently appeared on the No Laying Up podcast. There, Rory had an interesting chat about everything that has happened with him in the past year. The host even asked him about his current motive behind playing on the tour? And what matters to him the most?

Rory, without any hesitation, said, “Trophies, pin flags. All my pin flags from my wins are up in my gym. All the trophies are obviously in my eyes. And at this point in my career, I would give all the prize money back to just win trophies. All of it, not what I have currently made, but going forward, you wouldn’t have to pay me a penny.”

McIlroy said that he has worked hard to get to this point in his career where money isn’t an enormous factor. Furthermore, Rory said when someone comes up and says that they enjoy watching him play golf, it makes him smile. “So if I can win trophies and put pin flags on my gym wall and give people a little bit of joy through watching me play the game, awesome.”

So, the four-time major championship winner’s primary motive is to win trophies and spread joy among fans. Hence, Rory McIlroy is considered the best ambassador for golf and is also one of the most fan-favorite golfers.
