Cameron Smith is enjoying his golf at the moment. The 27-year-old is sitting in second place after two rounds at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Smith went all guns blazing in the second round on Friday and his putter absolutely caught fire. The Australian also equaled a PGA Tour record in the process!
Putting is an important aspect of golf, and reading the greens can prove to be a crucial challenge. Cameron Smith delivered a putting masterclass on Friday and tied an unbelievable PGA Tour record in the process.
Smith shot 8-under-62 on the par-70 TPC Southwind in Round 2. In that magical round, the Australian only made 18 putts in total. He only required a two-putt on four occasions during the round. Smith completed 18 holes with just 18 putts. That’s insane!

With this effort, Cameron Smith tied an incredible PGA Tour record for taking the fewest number of putts to complete a round. An enormous achievement indeed and one to cherish forever.

So the PGA Tour record for fewest putts in a round is 18. Cameron Smith became the latest player to achieve it, and here are the other golfers who are a part of this elite club: Sam Trahan, Mike McGee, Kenny Knox, Andy North, Jim McGovern, Corey Pavin, Ken Duke, and Blake Adams.
How did Cameron Smith react to his historic round?
Cameron Smith carded a 62 in Round 2 and was ecstatic with his performance. “Yeah, it’s a pretty cool little title I guess to have next to your name,” Smith mentioned after the round.

Smith made six birdies and an eagle in the second round. He gained 3.167 strokes in putting on Friday and flew straight into contention on the leaderboard with the low-scoring round.

“The greens are so good around here,” Smith added about TPC Southwind. “If you get the ball started online and you’ve hit a good putt, most of the time they’re going in. Yeah, really just a good day on the greens, I guess.”
