Golf is one of the richest sports in the world, as professional golfers make millions in most tournaments. However, most of the credit for the financial growth of the game goes to Tiger Woods. He single-handedly revolutionized this sport and brought in popularity and money in golf.
Apart from winning 82 PGA Tours, Woods even has bagged 15 major championships in his career. Hence, this shows the dominance he has had over the years. However, Steve Williams, Tiger’s former caddie, recently revealed an incredible quality of the maestro when it comes to wins and prize money.

Steve Williams reveals Tiger Woods’ incredible quality as a golf player
Steve Williams was Tiger Woods’ caddie from 1999 to 2011. Not to mention, these were the peak years of Woods’ career, and he was indomitable in those 12 years. Recently, Steve appeared on a podcast and talked about how Tiger never cared for the prize money, and that’s what probably made him the kind of player he is today.

“One thing I absolutely admired about Tiger is that at the completion of a tournament, you’d go into the scorer’s hut, and you sign your scorecard, and you hand it in,” Williams said. Furthermore, he said there was always a sheet with prize money allocation for everybody. And everyone can have a look at how much money have they won.

However, Steve said Woods never saw it. “He played to win trophies and create records, not for prize money. He’s the only player I’ve ever caddied for, the only player I’ve ever seen who never, ever looked at that sheet. OK, you could argue he didn’t need to look at that sheet, but every player looks at that sheet, and he never did,” revealed Williams.

Yes, Tiger had plenty of sponsorships, and he had already gained millions of dollars in the early stages of his career. Hence, one might feel there was no reason for him to look at the prize money. But still, it’s a great mindset to have, as he always focused on the trophies and did not think about the financial gain he would have from winning an event.
