Patrick Reed Shares Positive Update After Being Hospitalized for Pneumonia

Patrick Reed has returned to his Houston home. He was in a hospital for about a week, where he was battling bilateral pneumonia. Moreover, Reed had withdrawn from the Wyndham Championship and the Northern Trust in consecutive weeks. Firstly, he had taken a break due to an injury to his ankle, but then soon after that, he was hospitalized for bilateral pneumonia.
Reed has had a good season this year on the PGA Tour as he had won the Farmers Insurance Open. He even had traveled to Japan as he got a late call up to represent the team U.S. at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

“I’m doing well,” said Patrick Reed to Golfweek. “I’m at home recovering and looking forward to getting back out there real soon.”

“It’s great to be back home with the family, kids, and Justine,” he added. “It makes the recovery process so much better. I’ve been focusing on my health and my family and Justine. You don’t realize how special you have it until something like this happens, and I’m so happy just to be back recovering with them. I wish everyone a safe and healthy week and can’t wait to be back at it.”

However, Reed did not elaborate about his return to the PGA Tour. And it looks like he still doesn’t have a timetable in mind to return to golf. Patrick Reed is currently 26th in the FedExCup standings. However, only the top 30 will make a move into the final Tour Championship following this week’s BMW Championship.

The 2018 Masters Champion is also 10th in the points race for the U.S. Ryder Cup team. And he was on the radar of Steve Stricker and was one of the favorites to get in the side through captain’s pick. But since it is still not clear when exactly Reed will start playing on the PGA Tour, it will be interesting to see whether he makes the team U.S. for the upcoming Ryder Cup.
